Items needing binding or rebinding
are conveniently processed by supplying the Bindery with your
current binding information, filling out a short order form, and
giving us a quick call.
Once your order arrives, our experienced staff of bookbinders
collates your materials, prepares the spines for binding, either
re-sews or adhesive binds the spine, trims the sides of the item
if appropriate, reshapes and relines the spine, constructs and
attaches a new cover, and ships it back to you. All the processes
used are tried and true binding techniques, and the materials
we use are of superior quality, p.h. neutral, and are environmentally
friendly.
Types of Binding
Economy Binding
We recognize that occasionally some materials may not require
full library-style binding. We offer a full array of alternative
bindings—one of which is sure to fit your needs.
LUM Spec Binding
A scaled-down version of standard library binding without the
traditional rounded and backed shape of the spine and bound with
a cover of lesser durability.
Mylar Binding
A unique binding geared for re-binding paperbacks or monographs.
This style of binding utilizes the original paper cover of the
book which is laminated with a clear protective covering and is
made into a hard bound-like book.
Archival Pamphlets
We offer this stapled format style of binding for very thin materials
that need to be retained in a sturdy protective cover. The front
cover is clear and the back is made of a dark gray dense paper
board material.
Enclosures
When materials are too fragile to rebind, or the nature of the
material is such that rebinding would in some way compromise its
value, the Bindery offers a number of enclosures.
Standard Portfolio
A Portfolio, when closed, looks like a book when its on a shelf.
This enclosure has a full cover, a set of sturdy flaps, cotton
ties, and is identified with full spine lettering.
Phase Box
This archival enclosure has dense paper board flaps to fully protect
its contents and is secured together with either magnetic strips
or buttons with linen ties. Paper spine labels are used for identification.
Phase Wrappers
A lighter weight, less expensive version of a phase box utilizing
paper flaps and paper spine labels.
